Stud Medicine

If you are hoping to breed from your mare, our vets at Bourton Vale Equine Clinic can work with you every step of the way, from optimising the chances of a successful covering to advice on foaling and caring for the new addition.

Once you have decided on a suitable Stallion and the method of covering (Natural or AI), one of our vets will need to visit your mare to take the initial swabs and blood tests. These are usually required before a mare goes to the stud. It is also recommended to have your mare scanned to ascertain when the optimal time is for her to be covered.  Our vets can continue to care for the mare post covering with pregnancy diagnosis, advice on vaccinations (EHV & ROTA), foaling and later on, newborn foal checks and neonatal care.

Our team of experienced stud vets care for the boarding mares at some of the most prestigious Thoroughbred and Sport Horse Studs in the area and we offer stud packages for owners wishing to take advantage of an easier, inclusive payment option.
