Neurological Disorders

Investigation of neurological problems first and foremost requires very careful observation and detailed, often repeated, neurological examination to try to determine which part of the nervous system is likely to be affected.

However endoscopy of the head, x-rays of the head and neck and lumbar puncture for collection of cerebrospinal fluid collection. If required, horses with suspected brain disease can be referred onto a specialist hospital imaging service for CT or MRI scans of the brain and potentially the spinal cord.
